Home Weatherization Defined
 
Weatherizing a home involves the two distinct and connected categories; Replacement and Upgrades.

Home Weatherization is a method to “improve and update” an existing home with Replacements and/or Upgrades that will ensure energy efficiency while reducing energy consumption. Home Weatherization procedures must include a “Whole-House Weatherization Approach” and how the house performs as a system. Weatherizing a home involves the two distinct and connected categories; Replacement and Upgrades. As of 2009, 74% of American homes require major replacements.

Replacements: (Eligible For The $1500.00 Tax Credit)

Heating and Air Systems: Installation of modern, energy-saving heating and cooling equipment. Heating and Air Systems-equipment shall meet ENERGY STAR requirements.

Roofing-Asphalt Shingles or Metal Roofing: Installation of Radiant heat reflective Asphalt roofs with appropriate cooling granules (or) Metal roofs with appropriate pigmented coatings. Roofing products shall meet ENERGY STAR requirements.

Windows, Doors and Skylights: Replacing older and drafty single-pane, non-insulated windows, doors and skylights with modern, energy-saving, ENERGY STAR rated units. Replacement units shall meet ENERGY STAR requirements.

Insulation: Providing new and supplemental batt insulation throughout the entire home to meet or exceed DOE and IBC guidelines.

Upgrades shall include the updating and improvement of existing Whole-House Systems when feasible and predictable outcomes are achieved to meet current energy guidelines.
